Our courses offer practical, evidence‑based learning designed to build confidence, competence and high‑quality practice across the work & health landscape.
We offer a range of courses to help you build the right skills at every stage of your occupational health career. If you are new to the field, begin with our Occupational Health Essentials Course, our recommended starting point to give you a solid foundation and build confidence and core knowledge.
If you’re looking to upskill or gain ACPOHE Technical or Registered Membership, you can choose from a variety of our extended courses, all designed to strengthen your practice and broaden your impact.
Our courses are available to all ACPOHE Standard, Technical and Registered Members. Some of our courses are open to Student, International and Associate Members too, making them suitable for any professional working in, or interested in, Occupational Health.
The 1st module of our Occupational Health Essentials course is FREE and available to anyone. Otherwise, you will need to become an ACPOHE member to do one of our courses
Foundation Course
Occupational Health Essentials Module 9 - Report Writing
Eligibility: Module 9 is for physiotherapists and other professionals who are new or interested in occupational health, to critically be able to produce clear, professional reports that support employee health and work outcomes.
Module 9 is FREE if you are an ACPOHE member.
Foundation Course
Occupational Health Essentials Modules 2-8
Eligibility: This course is for physiotherapists and other professionals who are new or interested in occupational health, to help you build a confident, practical grounding in this specialist area. Modules 1 and 9 must be completed first.
Cost: £250
For ACPOHE Standard Members, successful completion of all 9 modules in the Occupational Health Essentials Course will promote you to an ACPOHE Technical Member.
Associate, Student, or International ACPOHE Members are welcome to complete all modules but please be advised that the modules have been written by and designed for physiotherapists practicing in work and health in the UK. On successful completion of all 9 modules, a certificate will be awarded but not ACPOHE Technical Membership as this is reserved for ACPOHE Standard Members only.
A brief description of all 9 modules in the Occupational Health Essentials Course is below:

| To be able to apply key research findings and critical reasoning to enhance OH Physiotherapy practice | |

| To understand and apply the key legal and professional frameworks that govern OH and physiotherapy practice in the UK | |
| Module 4: | Protecting Health at Work |
| To understand and critically apply your knowledge of health protection principles, workplace risk assessment tools, and MSK hazard management strategies to your workplace | |
| Module 5: | Health Promotion and Behaviour Change |
| To design and implement inclusive, workplace health promotion initiatives using behavioural change and stakeholder engagement strategies | |
| Module 6: | Understanding Psychological, Social and Occupational Factors that Influence Health |
| To be able to identify, navigate and mitigate obstacles to occupational recovery using biopsychosocial assessment, use of flag frameworks, and outcome measures. | |
| Module 7: | Assessment of Fitness for Work |
| To critically assess fitness for work using psychosocial flags, ICF and functional capacity tools. | |
| Module 8: | Enabling Work Ability |
| To develop understanding of work ability and apply workplace rehabilitation strategies for sustainable return-to-work outcomes. | |
| Module 9: | Report Writing |
| To critically be able to produce clear, professional reports that support employee health and work outcomes. |
Extended Course
Vehicle Ergonomics
Eligibility: Participants must have a health background if they are not a physiotherapist. If you’re not a physiotherapist, please get in touch with us first so that we can check your suitability for this course.
This 2–3 hour independent online learning course includes provision of a new electronic Vehicle Assessment Form to assist you when undertaking these assessments. This is a highly practical course with plenty of top tips on how best undertake these assessments based on a systems approach to ergonomics.

Manual Handling for Clinicians - F2F option
This course is a Face-to-face version of our online course that can be arranged on request. Please contact us to discuss further.
Eligibility: Participants must have a health background if they are not a physiotherapist If you’re not a physiotherapist, please get in touch with us first so that we can check your suitability for this course. Participants will gain a clear understanding of the evidence and legislation underpinning manual handling training, learn to use objective tools to assess and control risk, and develop the skills to critique and improve manual handling techniques. They will understand how to design effective course content, work confidently with clients to tailor training to their needs, keep participants engaged, and create bespoke manual handling training solutions for any sector. Please note that this course does not cover the handling of people. A new course is coming to help you design and deliver people handling training courses. Foundation Course
Occupational Rehabilitation
Eligibility: Participants must be Chartered Physiotherapists and ACPOHE Members.
Cost:£425 (£390 Early Bird Rate up to xx/xx/202x)
Occupational rehabilitation builds the well-being and performance of employees and employers by helping workers and potential workers meet and sustain the demands of their work. This can be achieved through increasing the fitness of the worker and/or adjusting the demands of the role.
The course will begin broadly with society and organisational factors, progress to occupational factors and then focus in on individual factors and rehabilitation. Topics include:
- Fundamentals of occupational rehabilitation
- Business and organisational health
- Understanding job demands
- Conducting work conversations
- Behaviour change principles and practice
- Physiology, including strength and conditioning
- Designing rehabilitation programs
This 2-day face-to-face course emphasises the importance of rehabilitation and relationships in Occupational Health Physiotherapy. It includes a mix of presentations, case studies, group discussions, and practical activities, delivered by tutors with ACPOHE registered membership, post registration MSc qualifications, and experience in the NHS, industry, and private sector. While there is a focus on musculoskeletal health, physiotherapy, and the UK, the principles are applicable across various health conditions and countries.

If you’re beginning your OH journey, we recommend starting with Occupational Health Essentials. It gives you a strong foundation in core principles, workplace assessment skills and safe, effective OH practice.
No – many of our courses are suitable for beginners. You can build your knowledge from the ground up with our foundation courses, then progress to more advanced learning as your confidence and skills grow.
You can take courses individually or follow our structured pathways. Foundation courses help you get started, Technical Membership courses build practical workplace skills, and advanced courses support progression towards Registered Membership. Find out more here.
Yes – several courses are open to Associate Members, making them suitable for any professional working in, or interested in, Occupational Health. Some advanced courses are physiotherapy‑specific and these will be clearly indicated.
You can choose from a range of standalone courses, including topics like Advanced Ergonomics, DSE, workplace assessments and condition‑specific training. These are ideal if you want to deepen your expertise without following a full pathway.
All ACPOHE courses are available to book and access through our Work and Health Learning and Development Hub. Your place is confirmed once we have received your payment. Yes – a corporate booking for ACPOHE courses involves the interested party (corporate host) paying upfront for the cost of the course and being responsible for the provision of the venue, the administration and the smooth running of the course. A corporate booking is likely to save costs on delegate travel and may lead to cheaper course fees for the host organization, if the course is well attended. If are you interested in being a corporate host, please email us to discuss further.
